Here they are ladies and gentlemen! The 4 individuals we're deeming #1 seeds in this season's Rawlings UFC. But who are these guys? And do they deserve to be called #1 seeds? They come from 4 departments.
Denny "Big Sexy" Whiteside comes from the R&D department, as the #1 seed in the Sturgis region. Yes, Denny has a passion for his Harley, which certainly inspired the name of this regional. And, as a #1 seed, you earn that right to make everything else come through you. Your terms. Your pad. And Denny is battle ready, after advancing all the way to last season's final 4 as a 3-seed.
Here's an interesting sidebar.
Last year, no #1 seed advanced to the Final 4. In fact, only 1 of these so-called top seeds advanced to the Elite 8. And there were only 51 combatants in the field. What's going to happen this year?
Bruce "Bruce" Dickman comes in from the customer service department as the #1 seed in the Edwardsville, IL regional. Bruce packs a strong guiding hand that has handled just about any kind of issue you can fathom. And (no, I don't work in customer service, so I'm just guessing, of course) Bruce must calmly deal with issues all day. That adds up to a volcano about ready to burst - much like a Mentos and Diet Coke combination. (Check that out here!)
Ron "Busta" Kappauff is the star foot on the Rawlings kickball team, the Peg Legs. (we start play July 12!) He played college soccer and parlayed that into a top seed as a marketing manager here in the Rio regional. Of course, he was also a number one seed last year two - and was dumped off on the road on the way to the final 4. Do we ever learn?
Lastly, Bob "Windy City Shocker" Tomaszewski heralds as the top seed in the Chi-town region. (Chicago for those of you who are still waiting on your morning coffee) Bob was a fan fave last year and seemed destined to be that George Mason. That 10 seed that somehow shocks the world. But alas, he ran out of steam in the elite 8.
So who's the rest of the bracket?
That's coming out next week. But for now, I'll leave you with a parting UFC thought:
Last year, the final four featured two 3 seeds , a 6 seed, and an 8 seed. So maybe this whole post won't matter?
